GPS Alarm (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a location-based alarm that alerts you when you approach a destination you have chosen. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and your choices. We have tried to keep it plain and honest.
1. Who is responsible
This app is published by the GPS Alarm developer (“the developer”). For any privacy question or request, contact hafeee44@gmail.com.
2. What data the app uses
a) Precise & background location
The core purpose of the app is to measure your distance to a destination, so the app uses your device’s precise (GPS) location, including while it runs in the background or the screen is off. This is required so the alarm can fire even when the app is not open — for example when you are asleep on a train.
- Location is read using Android’s Fused Location Provider.
- Location is processed on your device only, in real time, to compute distance and ETA.
- Location is not stored on a server, not logged, and not shared with the developer.
- The app keeps a very small amount of location-derived data locally on your device: the coordinates of the destination and any places you save (Home, Work, favourites), stored in the app’s private storage so your alarm survives a restart.
b) Search queries (only when you search)
When you type in the search box, the text you type is sent to the Photon geocoding
service operated by komoot (photon.komoot.io) to turn place names into
coordinates. If that service is unavailable, the app falls back to the Android system
geocoder, which may contact Google’s servers. To improve result relevance, your
approximate current location may be included with a search request. Search text
is only sent when you actively search; it is not sent in the background.
c) Map tiles
Map imagery is loaded from third-party tile providers as you pan the map: OpenFreeMap (vector map styles) and, for the Satellite style, Esri World Imagery. Loading a map tile necessarily reveals to that provider the map area you are viewing and your device’s IP address, as with any online map.
d) What the app does NOT do
- No user accounts, sign-in, or profile.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No sale or sharing of personal data for marketing.
- No microphone, contacts, photos, or call data access.
3. Permissions and why they are used
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Location (precise) | Measure distance to your destination |
| Background location | Fire the alarm when the app is closed or the screen is off |
| Notifications | Show the ongoing “tracking” status and the arrival alert |
| Full-screen intent | Show the alarm over the lock screen so it can wake you |
| Foreground service (location) | Keep tracking reliably while running in the background |
| Exact alarms | Run the reliability watchdog that restarts tracking if Android suspends it |
| Vibrate / modify audio | Play and control the alarm sound and vibration |
| Internet / network state | Load map tiles and run place search |
| Ignore battery optimizations (optional) | Prevent the system from killing tracking early |
You can revoke any permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → GPS Alarm → Permissions. Revoking location will stop the alarm from working.
4. Data sharing
We do not share your data with the developer or any advertiser. The only data that leaves your device is:
- Search text and approximate location — sent to komoot’s Photon service (and/or the Android system geocoder) only when you search, to return place results.
- Map tile requests — sent to OpenFreeMap and Esri as you view the map.
These third parties process that data under their own privacy policies:
- komoot / Photon — komoot.com/privacy
- OpenFreeMap — openfreemap.org
- Esri — esri.com/privacy
We have no other data-sharing relationships.
5. Data retention
All personal data (destination, saved places, settings) is stored only on your device and remains until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes all locally stored data. We hold no copy because we operate no server.
6. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
7. Security
Because your data stays on your device and inside the app’s private storage, it is protected by Android’s app sandbox. Network requests (search, map tiles) use HTTPS.
8. Your rights
Since data is stored locally, you are always in direct control: you can view, edit, or delete your saved destinations in the app, and remove all data by uninstalling. If you have questions or requests, email hafeee44@gmail.com.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will change and the updated policy will be published at the same location. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
